We hope your whole family has enjoyed Community Games in the past! It is a joy for us to host an event like this that supports the families of our community. Every year we try to provide a wide range of fun things for you and your family to experience, learn about and simply enjoy. We want to be a benefit to your family and to our area! This year however there were too many unknowns until just a few weeks ago. Therefore we made the difficult decision this Spring to not hold the event that we so dearly love.
We want to benefit you throughout the year, not just on one night. We are working to positively impact our community through various ministries and programs at our churches too. We think the most positive impact we can make is to let people know about Jesus Christ. If you are looking for ways to learn more about Jesus, this page gives some great place to start. If and when you have further questions, please contact any of the Community Games churches listed on this website – we would be happy to talk!
We enjoyed sharing an evening of fun, food, fellowship and faith with you!
A Summary of the Gospel Message:
God created a perfect world. In this perfect state, people were unified with Him. This relationship with God was corrupted by people’s sin. God, being perfect, cannot be in a relationship with imperfect people. Therefore, everyone is separated from Him. God’s greatest desire is to have a restored relationship with us. To do so, God sent His son, Jesus, to take the punishment for our sin (suffering, death, and going to hell). By willingly taking our punishment, Jesus allows us to be perfect before God—we can again have a unified relationship with Him!
Personal Spiritual Practices
Knowing Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord is more than a realization of what God has done for you; it is a personal relationship with God Himself! Jesus didn’t just swoop in for a one-time-fix-all house cleaning of your sin - He brings His things along and actually moves in. Your conversion is a starting point, not the finish line, to a lifelong friendship with Jesus Christ. Similar to your other friendships, growing closer to Jesus takes time and effort. Things we do to grow closer to Jesus Christ are called ‘personal spiritual practices’. Listed below are 10 examples of ways you can learn more about Jesus and come to believe and love Him more. This is not a conclusive list - there are many more personal spiritual practices - these are just some basic, common, and important practices on which to build.
1. Read the Bible - Regular, consistent reading of God’s Word - not just once in a while, and not just a devotional (note next section).
2. Live as a Disciple - Try and live your life as Jesus would, do what He did, serve like He served, walk like He walked.
3. Pray - Two-way communication with God; it involves not only you talking, but you listening to Him talk to you (note next section).
4. Obey God - Discover what God wants and do it. Be faithful in obedience, and try and live a life of integrity.
5. Connect with a Church Community - Join with other Christians; don’t go it alone! God designed us for community with others.
Checking out any of the churches that helped put on this event would be a great place to start!
6. Resist Temptation - Actively identify areas in your life where you struggle with disobeying God and then change!
7. Seek God’s Will - Look for God’s leading in your life; try and line up the desires in your life with the Bible’s direction.
8. Give to God - Show God how much you love Him by giving of your time, gifts and money!
9. Share your Faith - Take what is important, the Gospel, and let other people know about it - it can be important to them too!
10. Live in God’s Power - Life can be tough. God will give you the strength to get through it; rely on Him.
“How and Where do I Start Reading the Bible?”
The purpose of reading the Bible is to know who God is so that we might grow in our relationship with Him. Following is a list of suggested devotional reading spanning 4 weeks. These different passages will give you a good variety of types of writing in the Bible. Read one chapter per day for 5 days each week. Also, consider writing brief notes on your daily reading.
Week 1 – The book of James
Week 2 – The first 5 chapters of John
Week 3 – Any 5 chapters of Ephesians
Week 4 – The first 5 chapters of Genesis
After reading these, try reading some entire books: Philippians, Mark, the rest of John, Matthew, Galatians, and Romans; or read some of the Psalms (especially check out the following: 1, 23, 32, 46, 51, 62, 90, 100, 139, 150).
“What is Prayer and How do I Pray?”
Prayer is more than just muttering a few specific words at scheduled times. It means living our entire life in a conversation with God. God’s Holy Spirit allows us to communicate with God at any and every time and in any and every place. There are no specific postures, words, or locations required—simply a willing heart to talk and to listen to God.
If you like a more structured prayer (perhaps you like writing your prayers), try something like this:
1. Admire —(Adoration)—express your devoted love to God.
2. Admit —(Confession)—confess your sins to God; ask for forgiveness.
3. Appreciate —(Thanksgiving)—be joyful for what God has given you!
4. Ask —(Supplication)—make any requests, remembering and trusting that God knows what is best for you.
